Solomon Falls Wild Alaska Smoked Pink Salmon Sides are the 1st place winner of the 2009 Symphony of Seafood’s Smoked Product Category.

This annual event sponsored by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation and held in Anchorage Alaska showcases new seafood products in three categories; Food Service, Retail and Smoked Products.

“It was a great honor to have our product judged by some of the best in the seafood industry and chosen as the first place winner in the smoked products category” said Mike Wells head of sales and product development for Solomon Falls.

Winners from each category received a trip to the International Boston Seafood Show and were provided with booth space to show their products. “We had a lot of fun showing our Wild Alaska Smoked Pink Salmon sides in the market place. The product was well received and we were able to make many new contacts at the show”, said Mike. “People were impressed with the flavor and texture of the product. Pink Salmon is not typically smoked but we are looking to change that”.

Give Mike a call if you would like to further discuss this delicious new product and its many uses.

The Wild Alaskan Coho Salmon is prized for its great flavor and firm texture.

Four flavors to choose from. Available in vacuum sealed 4 oz portions and sold 4 to the pound. Order by the piece. Shipped frozen overnight to your door.

Original: We start with a great fish and keep it simple allowing the salmons flavor to come through. Using our secret brine and a hard wood smoke, each boneless piece is perfect.

Black Pepper: Using what we learned with the Wild Alaskan Hot Smoked Coho Portions, we add a sprinkling of black pepper for a traditional Alaskan favorite.

Cajun: Sometimes you just need to kick it up a notch. Our Wild Alaskan Hot Smoked Cajun Coho Portions have just the right amount of heat and spice.

Teriyaki: Sweet and smoky and stripped thin to allow each piece to soak up that Teriyaki goodness. Teriyaki is a favorite of the old and young. Be sure to order a pound for the kids.

Valdez Fisheries Development Association Inc., operates the Solomon Gulch Salmon Hatchery here in Valdez Alaska. Constructed in 1982, the Solomon Gulch Hatchery is permitted to incubate 230 million Pink Salmon eggs and 2 million Coho salmon eggs annually

VFDA’s primary purpose is to provide salmon for the Common Property which includes commercial, sport and other end users. Each year starting in mid June, the Solomon Gulch hatchery awaits the return of it’s Pink salmon.

An average return for VFDA is about 10 million adults. After harvesting a small percentage of the return for cost recovery, the remainder is harvested primarily by the Commercial purse seine fishermen and the sport fishermen. In addition, VFDA collects approx., 350,000 adults for brood stock.

August is for Coho’s. The annual return of adult Coho to Valdez is between 150,000 and 250,000. This allows the community of Valdez to sponsor the Valdez Silver Salmon Derby with great success. The best time for sport fishing Coho’s is late August through Labor Day.

The Solomon Gulch hatchery is a strong economic engine for the Valdez and Prince William Sound area. Studies have shown that it contributes approx., $110 million annually to the region.

Sales for our Solomon Falls Seafood’s helps to off-set our operating expenses and debt retirement. This allows VFDA to reduce the amount of Pink salmon needed to meet our cost recovery goals leaving more fish for the Common Property.
